flickr-tube, video on flickr. yeckk.

uh huh.  flickr now introduces an option to post video among the great and not so great photographs of the world.

faq’s here.

i’m not too sure how i feel about it.  i’m a pro member and love flickr.  its a clean and simple interface that allows me to do a multitude of things easily.

do i want to see it become littered with useless and stupid videos?

before i could make a decision, i had to look into it a little more.

  • only PRO USERS get to post video – so if you were looking to post video for free, forget it.
  • videos cannot exceed 90 seconds of play – for now anyways.  no extended videos of the uncle larry’s 70th bday party, sorry.

i wondered, why would flickr do this?  after seeing the following video footage, i understood why  –>

watching the clip of ‘playing in the grass at sundown in wyoming’  inspires and shows great creativity.  i see what the flickr folks were trying to do.  if all the videos uploaded carried this attempt at creativity, i would see no problems with it.  Continue reading ‘flickr-tube, video on flickr. yeckk.’

why i refuse to shop at the evil empire.

say what you want.

walmart is great.

walmart sucks.

whatever you think, this story is one of many reasons that i refuse to give my money to the evil empire.

Compubeaver?

beaver1.jpg

havent decided if this breaks boundaries or if it could be a loving gesture in a sick way…

maybe you have a favorite pet that passed away and you just cant get over letting it go.  there is an option to keep your little friend nearby…  this project sets up a taxidermy beaver into a PC storage case.

still on the fence about it, but most likely this falls into the “kinda gross and morally incorrect” bucket for me.  actually, i know i couldnt do it.  its really gross the more i think about it.

the fine line.

a while back i wrote a post called ‘the dying art’.

the topic discusses how photographers are being scrutinized by police and occasionally harassed.  today i came across 2 more recent threads that have similar stories.  one here in the good old USA and another in the UK.

USA thread.

UK thread.

i’m not one to belittle the job of the police.  it is a difficult, stressful, and thankless job.  i applaud those who take on the career.  but there are the few occasions that i feel do step over boundaries.

as innocent as it sounds, the US thread – IMO – implied guilty until proven innocent.  the photographer was questioned, and then his wife being questioned further.  his word was not enough.  it wasn’t until his wife backed up his story that he was ‘ok’ to go.  what if he did not have his wife around?  would his word still been enough?

i find it sad that we as photographers and as artists will continually be under the skeptical eye of the government.  i know, different times now… post 9/11… war on terrorism… pedophilia…

lazy skater invention

lazyskater.jpg

surfing around on instructables, i came across the ‘5-Minute Project: Drill-Powered Skateboard’.  can we say LAZY?

when i was younger, if i didn’t feel like pushing myself i would try to grab onto someone as they’re riding their bicycle and hope that i wouldn’t eat shit and fall off my skateboard.  but for someone to invent this project, to put the time and effort on this scale… good grief.

c’mon everyone!  lets encourage our overweight and obese kids to be a little lazier!!!
