rad coffee tables

if i had the dough or the patience, i’d get one of these. by far one of the niftiest pieces of furniture i’ve seen to date, these are a must have in the modern home.

becausewecan.org has created a coffee table with lights that respond to your movements. imagine a flat surface with hundreds of LEDs that respond to motion above the table. LEDs are only activated when they see motion, otherwise the LEDs just calm down to a small twinkling status.

they offer two types that i’ve discovered – the wave & the ripple.

want one? two options. 1. buy one or 2. make one

first option, they make you a customized table that will set you back roughly between $1700 and $2400.

second option, make one with their kit they offer here as seen on evilmadscientist.com

one day when i’m rich i’ll think about buying one. until then, i’ll just have to settle for reading/writing about them.

chop stick gun.

chopstick-gun.jpg

i was surfing instructables again and admit this picture intrigued me.  i wanted to know what kinda gun was designed here.  although the picture shown here isn’t providing the most obvious answer, we can see the guy on the left is shooting the guy on the right with a chopstick rubber band gun

this will have to be tried here in the office.  i know a couple of guys who could use some rubberband pelting.

barbie doll electric chair project

i’ve seen some funny shit, but this ranks up there with the operation paris bit.

great idea by jessyratfink.  drafted as a middle school science fair project, this was meant to illustrate how the electric chair works.

i can’t wait to try it out.  if anything i can at least get some damn funny ass pics.

bigger is better – wall prints

i wanted bigger pics.  i went to see what options there are.

because bigger is better.   especially when its free

so i was straightening up my smugmug account and decided to see what ‘goodies’ they had for the pro users.  i came across ‘wallhogs’, a print really big picture/poster site that can provide an image up to something like 7′ x 4′ on various mediums.  they offer prints on vinyl, canvas, and poster paper stuff.

wallhogg.jpg

the process seems pretty easy too.  pick your photo, upload and send to wallhog.  then in 3 days they claim to have your item in the mail ready to go.  pricing on this seems ok i guess.  it depends on the material you choose to print.  i haven’t had a chance to check it out, but i decided to keep on searching.

i came across one guy’s post about making a cool wallpaper from a photo for his son’s bedroom.

 wallpaperthing.jpg

the idea was that you pick your photo, find a printer offering the service (wallpaper installation) and provide them with their spec requirements – in this case 150dpi at full res.  cost was approx $5 per square foot.

based on the above image, looks really cool – but a bit steep for my cheap ass.  i’ll keep searching.

finally i came across block posters.  same idea, different layout, & cheaper.  lets try FREE.  so basically its the same thing.  you pick the photo you want to use, upload to their site, and adjust the size you want.  but instead of waiting 3-5 business days you get an instant .pdf file of your image ready to go.

basically the image you upload is sliced into individual pages that you can use to ‘paste’ together.  i decided to try it with my recent simpsonized picture (which is way cool too, so check that out while your at it.)

this is a snapshot of the final product from block posters  —->

bigblock.jpg

since i was at work and fortunate enough to have a color printer available, i went ahead and printed it out.  once it printed, i taped them all together and i have to admit the final product is pretty darn nifty.

i now have the yellow simpson version of me hanging in my cubicle.  it’s awesome.  my pick of the bunch runs with block posters…..

digital photo frame

frame_485.jpg

ok, i’ve always thought the digital photo frames would be really cool to have around the house – but the price of these suckers are way expensive.  or at least more than i’m willing to fork out for.

so i was wondering if there was a way to do it myself.  then i stumbled upon this DIY project that makes it seem kinda easy.  i thought it would be worth making note of, so here it is.  popsci.com shows the way to make the under a hundred bucks digital photo frame project.
