GigaPan Epic – evolution of the panorama

gigapan epic

gigapan epic

by now most folks have seen David Bergman’s Inauguration image taken with the Gigapan Epic.

well guess what?  you can have one too.  make your own super cool panos using the GigaPan Epic.

how does it work?  the GigaPan Epic creates panoramas with almost any point and shoot pocket camera.  the Epic is a small robot – you set the upper left and lower right corners of your pano.  then the Epic works out how many photos your camera will need to take and takes them for you with its robotic arm.  it then organizes these photos taken into the correct rows and columns needed for the pano.

bags gone green – solar powered bags

how many times have you looked and saw that your ipod is about to take a dump on you cause you’re on the last bit of juice?  what about noticing that your cell phone is on its last bar cause you forgot to plug it in? maybe you lost that “kodak moment” cause the camera ran out of power?

well fear no more – introducing the solar powered back pack and messenger bag found at uncommongoods

SOLAR POWERED BACKPACK

This remarkable bag not only stores your stuff, it also recharges your electronic devices – using solar power! Great as a small daypack and laptop bag, this creation harnesses the energy of the sun to power your iPod, cell phone, PDA, digital camera and more. Including a 2,200mAh Li-Ion battery to store power, the bag can also hook up to an included travel charger and car charger when you’re out of the sun. When you are in the sun, the solar panels are tough, lightweight and waterproof and they generate up to four watts of power. The bag can be worn as a backpack or sling bag and features an intricate design that features a mesh backing for air flow and wire channels for headphones, hands-frees and more. Fully padded to protect a laptop, it fits up to a 15″ screen and also has loops to attach to other backpacks and rucksacks. Picked by Shiny as the 2005 Green Gadget of the Year. Made in China.

photo jewelry projects and ideas

i got to thinkin about the old photo in a locket for mothers day.  so i decided to research what options are out there in todays modern society.  i found 3 sites that incorporates photos in with jewelry.

we’ll start with photojewelrymaking.com:

they offer some pretty nifty stuff like making your own keychains, necklaces, bracelets, cuff links, charms, etc..

they have circle photo bracelets, or maybe some other mothers day jewelry ideas here  –>

photoshop express test drive – quick and easy with a few bugs…

 psexpress.jpg

so after the officious release of Adobe’s Photoshop Express, i decided to check it out myself.

upload -

easy. upload the pics you want to share and click upload. you have 3 options for uploading:

  • upload to your library
  • upload to a new album
  • upload to an existing album

i selected the library, so after images were uploaded they were nicely organized by date.  now on the left side you can see your pics by clicking on the “most recent”.  This will bring up the images you just uploaded.  Continue reading ‘photoshop express test drive – quick and easy with a few bugs…’

Photoshop Express – the next free option to editing your pics

adobe has announced its latest beta toy for the web.

web based and free? uh huh.

keep in mind – this isn’t built for the Photoshop guru.. this is meant to be a suggestion to those who want to slightly improve their photos on the cheap. this is geared towards the myspace and facebook crowds.  no palettes, no menus, nothing you would expect on the Photoshop interface. this isn’t a skimpy version of Photoshop either – this is what appears to be a rather intuitive web tool that i think will really take off.  check out Scott Kelby’s quick review of photoshop express.

Photoshop Express has such great Flash-based online galleries, and you can post your images there for free (you get 2 Gig of online storage free), and put a web gallery of your work online today, with no Web experience whatsoever…

scott kelby

learn more about the interface with Matt Kloskowski’s in depth review.

be sure to take a test drive with Photoshop Express.

death of instant gratification – polaroid calls it quits

my polaroid

i declare shenanigans

if you think this sucks too, then go here to Request that Fujifilm manufacture Polaroid instant film types. otherwise we’re kinda stuck..

basically i dont think polaroid should be allowed to shut down and discontinue their instamatic toys and film – but i see why they are.

In February 2008, Polaroid announced it would cease production of all instant film; the company will shut down three factories and lay off 450 workers.[1] Sales of chemical film by all makers have dropped by at least 25% per year in this decade, and the decline is likely to accelerate. Fujifilm is now the only remaining supplier of instant film in the United States.
