12 essential facts, formulas, and photographic rules

What happens when your systems go belly-up, when all of that cutting-edge technology dies and you must rely on (gasp!) your own knowledge? It pays to have these basics in your head. They can get you out of a jam and help you get good shots when nothing else will.

1. Sunny 16 rule The basic exposure for an average scene taken on a bright, sunny day is f/16 at a shutter speed equivalent to one over the ISO setting—that is, f/16 at 1/100 sec at ISO 100. From this you can interpolate, and try f/22 at the beach, f/11 on a cloudy-bright day, etc.

2. Moony 11, 8, and 5.6 rules There are many different rules that work well when shooting the moon. One favorite for a proper exposure of a full moon is f/11 at one over the ISO setting. For pictures of a half moon, use the same shutter speed at f/8, and for a quarter moon, use the same shutter speed at f/5.6.

3. Camera shake rule The slowest shutter speed at which you can safely handhold a camera is one over the focal length of the lens in use. As shutter speeds get slower, camera shake is likely to result in an increasing loss of sharpness. So, if you’re using a 50mm lens, shoot at 1/60 sec or faster. Not enough light? Use a flash, tripod, or brace your camera against a solid object. Continue reading ‘12 rules for photography worth memorizing’

The Hangover – The Verdict = A+++

The Hangover

The Hangover

PLEASE NOTE: if you’re easily offended – this is NOT the movie for you…

i saw the previews for The Hangover a few weeks ago at the release of Star Trek. the more trailers i saw for this movie, the funnier it looked.  i was determined to see it.

i did.  and it was fuckin awesome!

so what’s it about?

Two days before his wedding, Doug and three friends drive to Las Vegas for a wild and memorable stag party. In fact, when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning, they can’t remember a thing; nor can they find Doug. With little time to spare , the three hazy pals try to re-trace their steps and find Doug so they can get him back to Los Angeles in time to walk down the aisle.

  • who’s in it?

  • well there’s no one main star the movie focuses on, which is nice.  i mean you have two main stars (heather graham and jeffrey tambor) that are in it, but they’re not the spotlight.  they play small roles.  the faces you see are familiar – brad cooper, the jerk boyfriend from Wedding Crashers.  you have ed helms which you might recognize from the office.   zach galifianakis – honestly i’ve not really recognized from anything, but he has a pretty snazzy website worth checking out.  justin bartha is also a familiar face from the National Treasure flicks.

  • the verdict

the movie is very good from start to finish – but it’s the VERY END that ties up all the loose ends and truly makes this movie GREAT.  this flick combines humor, crudeness, obscenities, and vulgarities into a very funny story.  if you have a sick and vulgar sense of humor – you will enjoy this movie.

Todd Phillips, you outdid yourself – this movie was fuckin great.

:: stands up and claps ::

i give it two thumbs up and would watch it again and again.

Cast: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Heather Graham, Justin Bartha, Jeffrey Tambor
Director:
Todd Phillips
Rated R – some drug material, pervasive language, sexual content and nudity

this was just too pretty to not make mention.
Jag's R Collection

Jag's R Collection

during some interweb surfing i came across an ad that just showed jaguar’s most impressive car so far that i can recall.  not a big jag fan since i think they’re overated and the last one i drove kinda sucked.  but the advertisment’s photograph for this car made me click the ad anyway.  so i researched.  i think i’m impressed with what i’ve seen and read so far.  introducing Jaguar’s R Collection…

Jag's XKR

Jag's XKR

the 510 hp XKR looks pretty spiffy and looks like it has what it takes to back itself up when it comes to talkin shit if it wanted.  rated to bust out 0-60 in 4.6 seconds by the all-new AJ-V8 GEN III R Engine coupled with its acclaimed 6-speed ZF automatic transmission, makes it sound pretty silly fast.  gimmie gimmie…

Jag's XFR

Jag's XFR

need a 4 door?  with speed?  how bout the XFR?  this sedan has the ability to power from 0-60 in 4.7 seconds.  now thats a REAL family mobile.  this ride pushes out 510 hp with a supercharged AJ-V8 GEN III R engine and its acclaimed 6-speed ZF automatic transmission.  forget the minivan – the kids can sit in the back just fine…
