with everyone trying to make a more conscious effort of going green, i was thinking about how i could recycle my stockpile of epson cartridges. seems like no real options are available to be green here with these cartridges. Petsmart, Staples, or any other vendors won’t accept them.

i decided to go directly to epson. i checked out epson’s recycling program info here. but no where did it state that they take back INK CARTRIDGES. so i go researching the web and found some interesting stuff. Continue Reading »

wanted to watch it at IMAX in AC when we were up there for my bday, but they werent playing it there.  so i finally watched it last night.  and it was awesome.

robert downey jr. does a fantastic job.  the CGI wasn’t out of control.  the story line and concept behind it all was well thought out and executed.  special effects were great.

do i look forward to seeing another?  yes.

and they need to hurry the hell up with filming.

i got to thinkin about the old photo in a locket for mothers day.  so i decided to research what options are out there in todays modern society.  i found 3 sites that incorporates photos in with jewelry.

we’ll start with photojewelrymaking.com:

they offer some pretty nifty stuff like making your own keychains, necklaces, bracelets, cuff links, charms, etc..

they have circle photo bracelets, or maybe some other mothers day jewelry ideas here  –>

down the street there’s a new building development that came up housing a few new restaurants.  potbellys, panera bread, mama lucia’s, and austin grill

potbellys good, checked it out - they got good eats.

panera bread is the same no matter where you go.  the only problem is they STILL aren’t open yet.  good grief - its only been 6+ mos. the whole place was already furnished and ready to rock and roll.  they even had their wi-fi up and going.  all they needed was bodies.  whatever.  i was told 2 more days.

mama lucia’s will have to wait a while before i get to check it out.  i’m trying to watch my girlish figure, so no big italian meals for the moment.

so i see that austin grill - custom burrito shop is open.  i go check it out.  unfortunately i discover this version of austin grill falls into the baja fresh catagory on my menu of restaurants.  like baja fresh, austin grill seems to be more like a chipotle LITE.  Continue Reading »

uh huh.  flickr now introduces an option to post video among the great and not so great photographs of the world.

faq’s here.

i’m not too sure how i feel about it.  i’m a pro member and love flickr.  its a clean and simple interface that allows me to do a multitude of things easily.

do i want to see it become littered with useless and stupid videos?

before i could make a decision, i had to look into it a little more.

  • only PRO USERS get to post video - so if you were looking to post video for free, forget it.
  • videos cannot exceed 90 seconds of play - for now anyways.  no extended videos of the uncle larry’s 70th bday party, sorry.

i wondered, why would flickr do this?  after seeing the following video footage, i understood why  –>

watching the clip of ‘playing in the grass at sundown in wyoming’  inspires and shows great creativity.  i see what the flickr folks were trying to do.  if all the videos uploaded carried this attempt at creativity, i would see no problems with it.  Continue Reading »

avon walk for breast cancer

* keep in mind that i dont usually go around asking people for money or anything like that unless i think it’s a worthwhile cause. *

so i will ask that you please consider sponsoring my friend, Jennifer Clarke in her walk for this amazingly worthy cause.  it doesnt have to be much, everything and anything helps.  donate here.

a little bit more describing what the walk is about:

About the Avon Foundation and the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer
The Avon Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, was founded in 1955 to improve the lives of women and their families, and Avon philanthropic programs worldwide have raised and awarded more than $500 million. Now past the half century milestone, the Avon Foundation brings this mission to life through two key areas: breast cancer and domestic violence. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade launched in 1992, and Avon breast cancer programs in some 50 countries support advancing access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on the medically underserved. Funding is awarded to beneficiaries ranging from leading cancer centers to community-based breast health programs for awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and scientific research.  Fundraising is through a variety of “pink ribbon” products, events, races and walks. The largest is the U.S. Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series, which began in 2003. For more information on the Avon Foundation visit http://www.avonfoundation.org/.

did you know?

  • Approximately 178,480 women and 2,030 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year
  • 40,460 women and 450 men in the U.S. will die from the disease annually.
  • There are over 2 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. who have been treated for breast cancer
  • Every 3 minutes, there is a new diagnosis of invasive breast cancer
  • There are more than 250,000 women under the age of 40 in the U.S living with breast cancer, and over 11,000 will be diagnosed this year
  • A woman has a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime
  • Every 13 minutes, a life is lost to breast cancer
  • White, non-Hispanic women are more likely to develop breast cancer but African-American women are more likely to die from it.
  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Hispanic women and is the leading cause of cancer deaths among this group.

so after the officious release of Adobe’s Photoshop Express, i decided to check it out myself.

upload -

easy. upload the pics you want to share and click upload. you have 3 options for uploading:

  • upload to your library
  • upload to a new album
  • upload to an existing album

i selected the library, so after images were uploaded they were nicely organized by date.  now on the left side you can see your pics by clicking on the “most recent”.  This will bring up the images you just uploaded.  Continue Reading »

where am i? (ie. the interwebs)

maybe. but being a photographer who puts my stuff on the web - i think i’m entitled to know who is using or posting my images without sounding arrogant.

so i searched. Continue Reading »

adobe has announced its latest beta toy for the web.

web based and free? uh huh.

keep in mind - this isn’t built for the Photoshop guru.. this is meant to be a suggestion to those who want to slightly improve their photos on the cheap. this is geared towards the myspace and facebook crowds.  no palettes, no menus, nothing you would expect on the Photoshop interface. this isn’t a skimpy version of Photoshop either - this is what appears to be a rather intuitive web tool that i think will really take off.  check out Scott Kelby’s quick review of photoshop express.

Photoshop Express has such great Flash-based online galleries, and you can post your images there for free (you get 2 Gig of online storage free), and put a web gallery of your work online today, with no Web experience whatsoever…

be sure to take a test drive with Photoshop Express.

latest toy - 105mm f2.8

couple of weeks ago i picked up the 105mm f2.8 VR… and its awesome.  took some getting used to, but i’m pleased overall.  here’s a couple that i’ve gotten around to posting.  i’ll have some more later.

monday afternoon i placed an order with utrecht art supplies for 2 black picture frames.  i checked status on it yesterday and saw that it was scheduled to be delivered today.

the package arrived this morning.  i was out of the office when someone had signed for it and left it on my desk.  when i got back i saw that the box had obviously been dropped on one side.   no big deal, if it was properly packaged - there should be no problems.

being impressed with the quick shipping, i opened up the box and saw how poor the packing was.  one frame was bubble wrapped and the other was not.  just a few of those big pillow type air balloon thingies.  both frames rocked back and forth easily.

<balloon thingie packaging stuff >

air-pillows.jpg

i pulled out the first frame (which had no protection at all) and little shards & splinters of glass fell out of the frame into the box and on the floor.  the frame’s glass was busted.  my co-workers were standing around chatting as i’m opening the box - there was a quick hush and a couple of boo’s and hiss’s in the background. came upon bureauofcommunication.com

(thanks to the fine folks over at photojojo)

i think i love them.  i love the sarcasm.  the dry humor.  the simplicity of a well executed idea.

grievance reports,  unsolicited feedbacks, formal apology forms - all fill in the blank.  look to the bottom to stamp the message with any number of stamp type messages like, “URGENT” or “PLEASE DESTROY“.

what a great opportunity to get those unspoken thoughts out in everyday situations!
